

Mr. Oswald is currently in his eigth year as Director of Choral Activities at Muscatine
High School. At MHS, he directs the A Cappella Choir, Concert Choir, "River City
Rhythm" Varsity Show Choir, Encore!", Prep Show Choir and "Solid Harmony" Men's
Barbershop Group. In addition, he serves as Musical Director for the Drama
Department's annual musical, prepares students for the Iowa All-State Choir
Auditions and teaches voice lessons throughout the school year.
A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Nick graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in
1999. In May of 2004, Mr. Oswald graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University
of Northern Iowa, receiving his BM in Vocal Music Education. During college, Mr.
Oswald served as Chancel Choir Director of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo
from September of 2002 to December of 2003. Mr. Oswald studied voice with Dr.
Jean McDonald and conducting with Dr. Brad Barrett. As a collegiate vocalist, he
was a three-time finalist at National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS)
competitions.
Mr. Oswald is a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Iowa
Choral Directors Association (ICDA) and Iowa Music Educators Association (IMEA).
He currently serves as the Southeast Iowa District Representative for ICDA. Nick
wishes to thank all of the vocal music students at MHS for their continued dedication

Darcy Hendriks, vocal director at Muscatine High School, is a native of Muscatine,
IA. Since graduating from MHS in 1996, she has become a well-known accompanist,
director, soloist, lesson instructor, and composer. Ms. Hendriks currently directs the
Freshman Choir, Jazz Catz, and Jazz Etc. and is a past director of both upper-
classman choirs and show choirs. Along with conducting, accompanying,
independent studies, and voice lessons at MHS, she also works as a summer music
director for the MHS marching band program. She is a member of the Iowa Choral
Director’s Association, the American Choral Director’s Association, and the Iowa
Alliance for Arts Education. Ms. Hendriks has been accepted as a member of Who’s
Who Among American Teachers. Ms. Hendriks instructs a full piano studio while
personally studying guitar and voice. She is a member of the Teacher Leadership
group and a charter member of the Respecting Diversity committee at MHS. Most
recently, Ms. Hendriks has been chosen as the sole recipient of the Catherine Miller
Explorer Award, given annually by the Muscatine Stanley Foundation to a staff
member in the Muscatine CSD.
She previously held the position of Vocal Director for Collins-Maxwell MS/HS in
Maxwell, IA. Along with building the choir program, her credits included working
with the pep bands, choreographing for cheer squads, and assisting the dance
team. In her free time, Ms. Hendriks sang three seasons as soprano section leader
with the Ames Chamber Artists. In May of 2000, Ms. Hendriks received her BA in
music from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. While at Luther, she had the privilege of
touring the United States and Europe with the internationally acclaimed Nordic
Choir. Ms. Hendriks sang under Dr. Sandra Peter and Mr. Weston Noble, studied
voice with Dr. David Judisch, and studied coaching/accompanying with Dr. Jessica
Paul. Ms. Hendriks was an assistant choral director, staff accompanist, and outreach
coordinator for the State Fair Singers and Jazz Band in 1999. She taught private
voice lessons in the area and was an assistant director/accompanist for area church
choirs.
